Celebrating our Governors on National Governors' Awareness Day
Thursday 13th February is National School Governors' Awareness Day, a time to recognise the invaluable contribution of school governors.
School governors play a vital role in the management of our schools. They offer strategic guidance to school leadership teams and work with other School Advisory Board (SAB) members to plan a school’s strategic direction. They:
- Oversee a school’s financial performance, ensuring money is well-spent
- Hold the headteacher and school leadership team to account
- Challenge existing processes to drive school improvement
Becoming a school governor requires drive and commitment, plus attendance at approximately six meetings a year. In return, it offers many professional and personal rewards, including career development opportunities and the chance to support young people’s futures.
